With a path toward licensure
Offering a specialized study in school superintendency, the specialist in education (EdS) in school superintendency will help you develop your knowledge, performances, and disposition essential for success in the day-to-day operation of a school system and develop your broad understandings of educational programs. Plus, the degree will qualify you to take the superintendent license.
You’ll study and complete appropriate work from the field of educational administration and related fields, such as educational psychology, curriculum, adult and community education, educational foundations, and counseling psychology.
Plus, this is one program that helped qualify Ball State to be ranked 20th in the U.S. among educational leadership programs. The programs have been ranked by Leadership Excellence magazine since 2005.
Mode of Delivery
Classes for this doctorate are offered online
and face-to-face instruction in the greater Indianapolis area.
You will complete a supervised internship as part of this program.
The internship assignment will be arranged by the Department of Educational Leadership in consultation with you. You will be responsible for any necessary leave and other arrangements related to this assignment. Internship assignments will ordinarily be arranged in a school setting to provide a practical, supervised experience in educational leadership. Ball State faculty, in cooperation with an outside agency, will provide supervision for the experience.
The Specialist Committee
A three-member committee, consisting of educational administration faculty members, will usually be appointed during the first semester that you are accepted into the degree program. Together, your committee chair and you will develop a plan of study to fit your needs. The committee will also conduct the required written and oral examinations when you have completed all your coursework.
