We understand that your life is busy and your time is occupied with work, family, and other obligations that don’t always allow for attending scheduled classes. Online study is a great way for busy adults to take courses and work toward a degree or professional certificate or license on their own time.
Taking courses online allows you to complete your course work from home, work, or wherever you have a high-speed Internet connection. As an online student you’ll never have to come to Ball State’s campus; you participate in class discussions and submit all assignments online.
You’ll keep in contact with instructors and classmates using e-mail, discussion boards, file sharing, chats, Web page posting, and possibly over the telephone. And, if some of those words sound unfamiliar right now, don't worry. We offer technical assistance to assist you all along the way.
Fixed-time Online CoursesSome courses within the graduate-level business administration or educational studies or leadership programs are taught as fixed-time, online courses.
This means the courses are taught live on our main campus in Muncie and are simultaneously video streamed through the Internet for you to watch. Classes are taught on specific days at specific times. You are expected to view these classes via the Internet as they are occurring on campus, unless your instructor indicates that you can watch recorded versions on your own time. Muncie is in the Eastern Time Zone.
We recommend that you understand the course delivery options within the program you choose to make sure it is a good fit for you.
How You Take Online CoursesYou log-in to your online courses using either the Blackboard course management system (see our Blackboard preview for guests) or Mediasite.
To take online courses, you need a computer with a high-speed Internet connection. Learn more about the technology you will use.
