Certificate in Gerontology

As the average age of our population increases, our communities have increasing need for skilled persons to work with and assist in caring for this older population. We have created the certificate in gerontology program to give you the skills you need to be prepared to work in this growing field.

Classes are taught by supportive university faculty who understand the importance of convenience and flexibility to working adults. Two courses are offered each term making it possible for you to complete the entire certificate in three semesters. Most classes are scheduled to meet on five Saturdays, however several classes (including electives and required courses), are available online.

  1. Certificate may be used to validate skills and expertise held by a person in professional position who works with the aging.
  2. Program enables people working with the aging to gain useful, practical skills, and expertise.
  3. Certificate prepares people to enter the field of gerontology.
  4. Program provides skill and knowledge to persons who have the responsibility of older relatives or friends.
  5. Each course carries credit that may be applied to a variety of graduate degree programs.

Mode of Delivery
Depending on the courses you choose, the program can be 100 percent online or a blend of online and on-site courses on our main campus in Muncie, Indiana.
