Certificate in Human Development and Learning

For People Who Work with People

Unless you’re a night watchman working the North Pole beat, you probably spend each of your days interacting with people. Whether your field is education, health care, criminal justice, social work, or countless other fields, you need to understand the people you serve—physically, socially, cognitively, and emotionally.

And whether you work with children, adolescents, or adults, you can benefit from an enhanced understanding of the developmental processes and learning and motivation factors that help people live healthy and productive lives.

The certificate in human development and learning looks across the life span instead of focusing on specific age groups while considering the influence of families, peer groups, and school settings on human development. Issues of diversity and multicultural development are also considered.

While most licensed teachers have fulfilled a course or two in learning and development, this 15-credit-hour certificate provides a much needed boost in working with parents and children.

Whatever your degree, the certificate is the perfect add-on because it can help make your degree more effective. And the course work can be applied to the MA in educational psychology. If you talk to advisors of other programs, you will find that the courses can be used as electives in other master’s degrees across the university.

Certificate course work can be completed in two semesters and a summer.
