Courses You Will Take

ISOM 601 Introduction to Computer and Network Security (3 credits)
Basic concepts of computer and network security, emphasizes potential security risks, threats, and countermeasures, and the security controls and security management used to minimize those risks. Prerequisite: none

ISOM 602 Host Hardening (3 credits)
Basic concepts of host hardening. Hardening involves taking specific actions to block or prevent attacks by means of operating system and network security methods. Prerequisite: ISOM 601

ISOM 603 Network Designs and Security Concerns (3 credits)
Fundamental concepts of network design, construction and maintenance. This course also studies TCP/IP protocol and the tools used to read and interpret its traffic. Using case studies of proper network design, students will unravel the method of proper design and construction of enterprise networks and explain the security countermeasures that defend against hackers. Prerequisite: ISOM 602

ISOM 604 Security Technologies (3 credits)
Introduces various facets of network security and the tools available to secure and monitor TCP/IP-based networks. Technologies discussed include security architecture, cryptography, NAT, ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, switch security, intrusion detection, screen routers, remote access servers, analysis of network traffic and log files to detect intrusion signatures. Prerequisite: ISOM 603

ISOM 605 Disaster Recovery and Computer Forensics (3 credits)
Fundamental concepts of data protection, disaster recovery, and computer forensics. Introduction to data protection and disaster recovery, developing a disaster recovery plan, accessing risks in the enterprise, prioritizing systems and functions of recovery, data backup and recovery strategies, procedures for responding to attacks on computers, implementing a disaster recovery plan, continued assessment of needs, threats and solutions, business continuous planning, incident response, and computer forensic use of case studies and analyses.
