Attend an Indy-area Information Session
Register to attend a 5-7 p.m. May 20 information session at the Ball State Indianapolis Center, 50 S. Meridian St., to learn more about this program.

Are you teaching in the upper elementary grades for the first time in several years and just a little nervous about the level of mathematics you’re teaching? Ball State’s certificate in middle school mathematics education can help you refresh your mathematics skills and give you confidence in the classroom.

Certificate courses . . .

  • cover the breadth of upper elementary and middle school mathematics
  • give you teaching ideas for a variety of elementary and middle school mathematics topics
  • show you how to teach mathematics through problem solving

Because the five courses within our certificate can be applied to a master of arts in mathematics education, you may want to continue your graduate work and earn the master’s degree, specifically one of these two options within that program:

For Indiana Educators
If you are an Indiana-licensed school teacher, you can apply directly to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) to have middle school mathematics added to your existing teaching license as an additional content area. As part of the application process, you must receive a qualifying score on IDOE’s middle school mathematics exam.

But before taking the exam, you’ll probably want to refresh your math skills. The five courses in the graduate- level certificate in middle school mathematics are designed to broaden your skills and help you earn a qualifying score.

We also offer a graduate-level certificate in elementary mathematics teacher leadership.

Mode of Delivery
Courses for this program are offered online, on our main campus in Muncie, Indiana, and at Ball State centers in the greater Indianapolis area. You may also take a blend of online and on-site courses.
