Severe Interventions License

This focus area is designed for teachers who work with students who need intensive and severe interventions. 

If you intend to obtain a teaching license in severe interventions, you are required to get a licensure evaluation from from Ball State’s Office of Teacher Education Services before starting the program. The evaluation will provide you with a list of courses and exam requirements for an Indiana license in severe interventions. 

Potential courses* required for severe interventions are:  

  • SPCE 566: Introduction to Students with Orthopedic, Sensory, and Multiple Disabilities (Fall only) (3 credit hours)
  • SPCE 577: Introduction to Students with Intense Intervention Needs (Fall only) (3 credit hours)
  • SPCE 580: Educating High School Students with Intense Intervention Needs (Fall only) (3 credit hours) (or an advisor-approved substitute)
  • SPCE 578: Educational Methods for Students with Intense Intervention Needs (Spring only) (3 credit hours)
  • SPCE 579: Educational Methods for Students with Orthopedic-Sensory-Multiple Disabilities (Spring only) (3 credit hours)
  • SPCE 600: Education of Exceptional Children (3 credit hours)
  • SPCE 693: Practicum in Special Education: Physical Impairment (1-9)
  • SPCE 698: Practicum in Special Education: Intense Intervention (1-9)
  • SPCE 631: Computer Technology and the Learner with Special Needs 3 (3 credit hours)

*Initial teacher licensing will require additional course work.
