Adjunct InstructorProfessor, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport, Graduate Coordinator of Sport Management Program, Indiana State University Thomas Sawyer is professor of kinesiology, recreation, and sport as well as graduate coordinator of the sport management program at Indiana State University. A veteran of higher education, he has had the titles of instructor of health and physical education, director of recreational sports, department head, department chair, associate athletic director, director of articulation and transfer, director of the college prison education programs, executive director of regional education centers, and interim dean of continuing education.
Sawyer has served as president of the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness (AAALF), president of Indiana’s Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AHPERD), and the Midwest district vice president of AHPHERD. He is editor of the Indiana AHPERD journal and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) publication, Journal of Facility Planning and Design. He is author of 10 professional books and more than 175 peer-reviewed articles for professional journals. He has made more than 250 state, regional, national, and international presentations.
