Fall 2014-Summer 2015: Graduate Tuition for Online and Distance Education Students

The following costs are for Ball State online and distance students who are working on master's, doctoral, specialist degrees, graduate-level certificates, or taking 500-level or higher courses. This information is meant to help you estimate your education expenses.

As an online and distance student, your total tuition cost per semester consists of:

  1. Tuition or per-credit-hour fees 
  2. Technology fee 
  3. Program and/or course fees—applicable for some, but not all, courses or programs

NOTE: If you take one or more courses on Ball State’s main campus in Muncie, Indiana, during a semester or term, you are required to pay the main-campus rate for your graduate course, plus fees for student services, health, and recreation.


1. Basic Tuition (Credit Hour Fees)

3. Program and Course Fees
The following are fees that most commonly apply to online and distance education students.

Music courses $11 per credit hour
College of Architecture and Planning Students    
  • $275 if you take less than 6 credit hours
  • $550 if you take more than 6 credit hours
Nursing Students
  • $138 program fee per fall and spring semesters; $83 per summer semester
  • $3.50 for all clinical nursing courses with a lab to cover liability insurance
  • $400 per graduate clinical nursing course

Credit Card Fees
If you use a credit or debit card, you will be charged an extra 2.75% of your total bill. This is the fee passed on from the credit card companies to Ball State for processing. If you do not wish to be charged this fee, you might want to consider other payment methods.

The Ball State University Board of Trustees reserves the right to change the tuition, fees, and other charges for any semester or term. Fees do not cover the cost of textbooks and other learning materials required in courses.
