The Physiology and Health Science Department is very excited to announce that our very own Assistant Professor of Community Health Education, Dr. Jagdish Khubchandani, received the Hurley Goodall Distinguished Faculty Award for 2012. Khubchandani was given the award at the BSU multi-cultural center annual awards ceremony on April 23rd, 2012.
Dr. Khubchandani has been selected from Department of Physiology and Health Science to apply for this award due to his multiple local and national initiatives to support the professional growth of minority students. The many accomplishments of Dr. Khubchandani are very significant in relation to professional development and mentoring of minority students. Dr. Khubchandani has sponsored several students for NSF, NIH, US Department of Health and Human Services, State, and local research opportunities. He is a tough task master who believes in serving as a role model for minority students and motivates them to make the best out of college experience. Frequently, Dr. Khubchandani spends a significant amount of his personal time to nominate students, write numerous support letters, send out opportunities for professional experiences, and to provide professional advising. His dedication for the cause of minority students is unmatched. Dr. Khubchandani is a very worthy candidate for the Hurley Goodall Distinguished Faculty award and he will represent the legacy of this award with honor and distinction befitting such a worthy nomination” Hurley Goodall dedicated many years of service to the Muncie community and to Ball State University. Born and raised in Muncie, Hurley Goodall was appointed as one of the first two African American members of the Muncie Fire Department in 1958, was elected as the first African American member of the Muncie School Board in 1970, and served in the Indiana General Assembly from 1978 through 1992. The Hurley Goodall Distinguished Faculty Award was established in his memory and is given to recognize a full-time faculty or professional staff member at Ball State University who, over the past year, has made extraordinary efforts to assist students of color in their personal and educational growth.
