Renal and Metabolic Research Laboratory

The focus of the Renal and Metabolic Research Laboratory is to investigate causes of injury at the organ, cellular, and molecular level in the rat kidney.

A major emphasis of research involves investigating changes in the cellular levels of the antioxidant glutathione in rat kidney after exposure to ischemia, cancer drugs, etc. Equipment used in this research involves an isolated perfused rat kidney preparation, an MDQ capillary electrophoresis instrument, a microplate spectrophotometer, a flame photometer, a microtome, a cryostat, and centrifuges.

The department also has an animal care facility and tissue culture hood and incubator to further support this research. The laboratory is under the direction of Dr. Marianna J. Zamlauski-Tucker and provides research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
