Does European history intrigue you? Are you interested in immersing yourself in foreign cultures? Ball State’s minor in European history is an exciting way to explore Europe’s past and present while adding value to your major. Depending on your career goals, this minor can benefit majors in political science (particularly the international studies option), international business, history, and modern languages (especially German, French, and Russian).

Minor Requirements

To earn a minor in European studies, you must complete 18 credits of coursework.

  • HIST 456 Europe Since 1945
  • POLS 382 Governments and Politics of Western Europe

Language Proficiency

Proficiency is required in a continental European language by passing three semesters or the equivalent of study in one contemporary language, through the 201 level. By taking a placement exam, you may begin at a level higher than the 101 level. The chairperson of the Department of Modern Languages and Classics will determine language equivalency in consultation with the European studies program director.
