The department values basic and applied research for its own sake but also encourages the integration of knowledge production with teaching and service opportunities. IV. Faculty are expected to contribute to the functioning of the department as teacher, scholar, and citizen. Excellence in teaching and scholarship is central to the department's mission, and service to the university, profession, and community are expected.
