You can help pay for your education by receiving scholarships and fellowships, which are typically awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence and who will be in school upon receipt of the support.
Scholarship Application Information and Instructions
The Department of Psychological Science awards three scholarships annually (the W.W. Renke Memorial Scholarship, the Dr. Robert E. Hill Jr. Scholarship, and the William R. Clark Scholarship) and one biannually (the Dr. Hilda Gordon Scholarship) to acknowledge and support undergraduate students who have demonstrated excellence in academic work, professional development, commitment to the field of psychology and/or commitment to a liberal education. Each scholarship has slightly different criteria, which are summarized on the Scholarship Information Page. For example, 2 scholarships have a minimum GPA (Renke and Hill) while another (Gordon) expressly states that grades are not to be considered for eligibility. By completing and submitting one scholarship application, you will be considered for all of the awards for which you are eligible. Though funding for the scholarships, and therefore the cash value varies from year to year, the department tends to set the same cash value for all awards presented within the same year. Finally, please note that the Gordon Scholarship is being awarded by the Department of Psychological Science in even numbered years.

Dr. William R. Clark Scholarship (PDF)
The award was established by Mrs. Louise Clark to honor her husband, who was a professor and valued colleague in the Department of Psychological Science.
W.W. Renke Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Pauline Renke in memory of her husband who served in our department for twenty-five years. The intent is both to assist a deserving student and to honor the memory of a distinguished faculty member. In particular, it is hoped that this award will encourage us to reflect on and implement the values that Bill Renke lived by. These include a dedication to promoting the happiness of those around him, and a commitment not only to excellence in one's profession, but also to the fair and ethical treatment of others.
Dr. Robert E. Hill Jr. Scholarship
The award was established by Mrs. Doris Hill to honor her husband, who was the first chair of the Department of Psychological Science. The purpose of the award is to honor and assist students who demonstrate excellence and the ideals that Dr. Robert Hill Jr. strongly endorsed and encouraged.
Dr. Hilda Gordon Scholarship
The award was established together with the Dr. Whitney Gordon Scholarship by Dr. Vaneeta-marie D'Andrea to honor the Gordons, both of whom were excellent teacher-scholars at Ball State University. The purpose of the award is to honor and assist students who demonstrate a history of or interest in community service and disadvantaged populations. The Dr. Hilda Gordon Scholarships is awarded to a student in the Department of Psychological Science in even years and the Dr. Whitney Gordon Scholarship is awarded to a student in the Department of Sociology in odd years.
Community service work or interest in disadvantaged populations is weighed favorably and encouraged. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is a great resource for scholarship information.
