Option 2 EdD Requirements

Required Coursework Option 2

Our program will prepare you to teach a specific science discipline at community colleges, junior colleges or small liberal arts colleges.

Option2 requires 90 graduate hours distributed in the following manner:

Science – 36 hours, with at least 24 in one field.  You will select a science major field of study from:

• Biology

• Chemistry

• Computer Science

• Geological Sciences

• Natural Resources and Environmental Management

• Physics and Astronomy

• Physiology and Health Science
  

Science Education – 15 hours. 

• Science 690 (Sci 690) – Workshop in Science Education
• Science 692 (Sci 692)– Topics in the History and Nature of Science
• Science 695 (Sci 695) – Advanced Teaching Methods in Science 
• Science 696 (Sci696) - Current Issues in Science Education
• Science 790 (Sci 790) - Internship in Science Education

Research Methodologies – 14 hours. These courses consist of Design, Quantitative, Qualitative and Advanced courses.

Required:

Completion deadline

• You must complete the program within seven years of when you began it.

Program approval

• Full-time students must receive advisor approval by the end of the first year of study

• Part-time students must receive advisor approval by the end of the second year of study
