Master of Arts Program Requirements
The Master of Arts in Sociology requires a total of 33 credit hours. Most students complete the degree in two years. The average course load is 9 credit hours per semester. The following 15-hours of core courses are required:

To complete the remaining 18 hours, students choose from the following options: Thesis, Institutional Research Certificate, Teaching Certificate, or additional course work in methods and statistics. The department encourages students to write a master's thesis. Writing the thesis requires you to work closely with a faculty member on a project of original research. You may earn up to six credit hours for thesis work. Most students write a thesis during the second year of graduate work.
