National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the primary accreditation organization for educator preparation programs in the United States. In 2000, NCATE adopted program standards for both the Initial and Advanced Levels that must be met in order to be accredited at both the national and state levels. Standard 2 of the NCATE standards is the Unit Assessment System. Programs that are not accredited may not recommend their candidates for licensure. Annual updates on program status are reported to NCATE in the spring. In the spring of 2011, Ball State University received full accreditation from NCATE and met the Target level for Standard 2. Our next onsite visit is scheduled for the spring of 2018. Our Institutional Report, the Final Report from the NCATE Board of Examiners, and our Annual NCATE Reports are available below.
