The Office of Teacher Education Services and Clinical Practice provides a responsible agency and administrative structure for moving field experiences from a series of minimally related segments to a coordinated program of direct contacts with children, youth, teachers, and institutions. These field experiences provide the practical, hands-on foundation which greatly improves the quality of Ball State's teacher education preparation programs. The development of coordinating procedures pertinent to utilization of both on- and off-campus educational settings is an important function of the office. In addition, the office serves as a contact agency for institutions and professional personnel in the field for input from the practitioner's view into the preparatory programs in teacher education.
Expanded National Criminal Background Check Information
Students involved in early clinical experiences throughout an initial teaching licensing program (Decision Point 1- Decision Point 3), must have completed a video training titled "Protecting Children from Sexual Misconduct" before field placement requests will be processed. They must also have a current expanded national criminal background check completed prior to entering into a school for a field experience. Ball State University has partnered with a specific vendor to provide this type of check. Please click on the link below to access the background check website and follow the directions. The expanded national background check includes a search on county criminal records, a resident history and social security number alert search, a search within the national record indicator, and a check on the national sexual offender registry. This process also includes a search on the Indiana Expanded Child Protective Index.
