Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, beginning teachers must successfully complete the Beginning Teacher Residency Program. This is a two-year program and will be required in order to obtain the Proficient Practitioner license, which is valid for five-years. The building principal will determine whether the beginning teacher successfully completes the Beginning Teacher Residency Program. When you secure your first teaching position, you should immediately contact your principal to schedule an initial conference. The principal will also determine whether a mentor will be assigned to work with you during the first two-years. The portfolio is no longer required.
