About Lisa Pufpaff

Dr. Pufpaff is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education. She serves as the Program Manager for both the undergraduate and graduate programs in Intense Interventions, teaching many of the courses in the area of severe/multiple disabilities and supervising the practicum experiences of candidates pursuing licensure for Exceptional Needs: Intense Interventions. Dr. Pufpaff has over 30 years of experience serving individuals with severe/multiple disabilities of all ages. Her areas of expertise among this population include augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and literacy development. Dr. Pufpaff is passionate about teacher preparation for this population with a particular focus on standards driven curriculum development and program improvement related to national accreditation standards.

Professional Experience

 Dr. Pufpaff has served as a public school classroom teacher as well as a direct services provider for both school-aged students and adults with severe/multiple disabilities. She spent several years providing AAC services in public schools, pediatric rehabilitation, and private/clinical settings.

Dr. Pufpaff has been recognized for her outstanding teaching by the Department of Special Education (2011) and the Indiana Council for Exceptional Children (2013).

Dr. Pufpaff serves as a reviewer for the Council for Exceptional Children's (CEC) practitioner journal, Teaching Exceptional Children. She is the editor of CEC's Division for Physical, Health and Multiple Disabilities' journal Physical Disabilities: Education and Related Services.
