Vanessa L. Wyss is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Ball State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Science Education at the University of Virginia where she was a research assistant on an NSF research project. Her research interests include women in science, higher education in the sciences, middle level teaching and learning and affective education for adolescents as a way to reduce violence in schools. She has presented at multiple international conferences on issues in science education including class size, textbook use, and higher education in science. In addition, she has taught middle school science in public schools and undergraduate and graduate level classes to prepare pre-service teachers. In 2009, Vanessa was awarded a Junior Faculty Research Grant to study the impact of Podcast interviews with scientists on middle school student interest in pursuing science as a career. Highlights: Selected to participate in the 2009 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fellowship.
