The name of your advisor and the telephone number where she/he can be reached appears at the bottom of your DAPR.

How do I make an appointment with my advisor?
The easiest way to make an appointment is by calling the number on the bottom of your DAPR.

Where do I get a DAPR?
A DAPR can be printed from the Current Students website.

How do I know what I could take at another university that will transfer back BSU?
You can print a "reference" DAPR which will list classes that transfer to Ball State. From the DAPR link on the current students website (Current Students) click on "create a new DAPR." Choose the state under "State Reference Audit." Choose the school and continue. Your reference DAPR will appear in the Audit Date/Time box at the bottom of the page. Courses which transfer are found in parentheses beside the BSU equivalent.

How many hours do I have to complete to be a Junior? Senior?
You must have 60 completed hours to reach junior status. You must have 90 hours to reach senior status. You can find your credit hours listed on your DAPR.

How do I declare a minor or concentration area?
Change of major/minor forms are available in TC 913.

In which courses do I have to earn a "C" or better?
Please consult DAPR for requirements.

Which courses are required prior to Admission to the teaching program?
(Decision Point 2)
Please consult your DAPR and rGrade for the requirements.

Can I register for classes with the TC restriction, even though I haven't passed Decision Point 2?
No.  You have to actually be admitted before registering with the TC restriction.

Which courses are required prior to beginning to student teaching?
Please consult your DAPR and rGrade for the requirements.

Where do I sign-up for Writing Proficiency Exam?
Information regarding the WPE may be found at http://cms.bsu.edu/Academics/CollegesandDepartments/UniversityCollege/WritingProficiencyExam.aspx.

How do I sign-up for the PPST/Praxis I & Praxis II tests?
Register online for paper based tests.  For computer-based tests call 1-800-853-6773.

Do I need to take the Praxis I?

If you meet the minimum requirements below, you do  not need to take the Praxis I. 
ACT Composite:  24
SAT Verbal + Math:  1100

What are the passing scores on the Pre-professional Skills Test (PPST)?
Ball State University requires the minimum scores on the PPST to be admitted to the teaching curriculum that the Indiana Professional Standards Board has adopted as a requirement for licensure.

Reading = 176

Mathematics = 175

Writing = 172

or Combined = 527

Which Praxis II Tests are required for my major?
Elementary Education and DUAL Elementary/Special Education Majors take:

  • Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects; test code 5031; passing scores
  • Reading/Language Arts 165, Math 164, Social Studies 155, Science 159

For those students completing the Junior High Licensure Area in Math, you must also take:

  • Middle School Mathematics; test code 0069; passing score 156.

*Early Childhood Majors take:

  • Early Childhood; test code 0022; passing score 156
  • Reading Specialist; test code 0300; passing score 370

*For those students completing both Early Childhood and Elementary Education, only the Elementary Praxis II tests are required.

Prospective Students

If I transfer to Ball State, how long will it take to complete a degree in Elementary Education?
It will take at least 6 semesters to complete the sequence of teaching courses. During that time, any other requirements may be completed.

Who will evaluate my transfer credits before I transfer to Ball State?
Transfer credits are evaluated by the Office of Admissions.

Can I get course credit for work experience and volunteer work with children?
Course credit is awarded for experience which is supervised by faculty members in the Department of Elementary Education as a component of a course in which the student is enrolled. Other experiences can be helpful as part of the teaching portfolio.

Can I graduate in 4 years?
The majors in Elementary Education (K-6), Early Childhood Education (Birth to Age 8), Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education, and Elementary Education/Special Education (K-6) are designed to be 8 Semesters.
