Research and Community Impact

We’re inextricably connected to the communities in which we live. They provide us with growth and nurturing experiences, and our service is a benefit to all. This connection guides our efforts to provide students real-world experiences, to gain valuable research insights, and to serve our neighbors.

Our programs and students impact the community in a variety of ways, beginning with a service learning component in our introductory class based on the developmental assets in the community that children need to succeed. The department’s immersive learning projects have resulted in an array of creative and powerful collaborations with schools and other community agencies and groups.

We also impact the community through cooperative efforts with the YMCA’s Apple Tree Child Development Center and the Huffer Memorial Children’s Center, as well as practicum placements at schools throughout Delaware County.
