International Leader in Education Research to Speak at Pruis Hall

MUNCIE, Ind. – Prominent education researcher Robert Marzano will speak about what he sees as the next steps in education reform during an address at 7 p.m. April 2 on the Ball State University campus. Marzano, cofounder and CEO of Marzano Research Laboratory in Centennial, Colo., will speak as part of the 2013 Emens Distinguished Professor Lecture Series. His presentation is titled "Becoming High-Reliability Schools: The Next Step in School Reform." 

In addition to the evening presentation, Marzano will speak to students and faculty in the Student Center (Cardinal Hall B). Students will have an opportunity to meet Marzano and ask questions when he discusses "Classroom Management and Instructional Strategies" from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

Students and faculty are invited to stay for a presentation on "Effective Teacher Preparation" from 11 a.m. - noon. 

Internationally known for translating current research and theory into classroom strategies, Marzano’s visit to Ball State will offer Indiana educators and residents a timely opportunity to gain insight into current efforts under way in education evaluation, accountability and reform.  Marzano received a bachelor’s degree in English from New York’s Iona College, a master’s degree in education from Seattle University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Washington. In addition to founding his namesake research laboratory, which specializes in effective instructional leadership and classroom assessment strategies, Marzano has published more than 30 books and 150 articles covering topics that include instruction, assessment, standards and school intervention. He is a coauthor of Using Common Core Standards to Enhance Classroom Instruction & Assessment, which was published in January.
