Ball State University Teachers College in conjunction with the National Association for Gifted Children is pleased to announce that Cheryl Quatrano-Hatzidimitriou is the 2011 recipient of the NAGC/Ball State Administrator Award. Cheryl was recognized at the NAGC 58th Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, in November 2011.
Cheryl is a former teacher and has held numerous positions in the New York City Department of Education. She eventually became the regional director of gifted and talented programs and in this position sat on the New York City Think Tank where she continued her work with Joseph Renzulli. After bringing school-wide enrichment programs to more than 40 schools in New York City, she opened a middle school in Bayside, New York. In less than three years, the BELL Academy has become an international model and ranked on the 98th percentile of progress as compared to all New York City middle schools.
Since 1999, the National Association for Gifted Children, with generous support from Ball State University, annually presents an outstanding administrator award to a principal or superintendent, outside the field of gifted education, who has made a significant contribution to gifted education in his/her school district, or across the nation.
