A major in construction management will prepare you for professional career opportunities in the growing construction industry. You will learn the skills needed to become a proficient manager who can guide multimillion dollar projects from concept to completion on time and within budget.
Our courses are taught by highly skilled faculty members with real-world experience, and class work is focused on the knowledge you need. We also use the latest technology in the construction industry, putting you on the cutting edge.
Two internships are required, allowing you to gain valuable field experience and hone the skills you've learned in the classroom. You will also complete a required minor in business administration.
The Construction Management baccalaureate degrees (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science) are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).

The mission of the Construction Management program at Ball State University is to provide a quality education for students through an application-based classroom, laboratory, and immersive learning experiences that will enable students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers.

There are no separate or additional application procedures for students to be admitted to the construction program. Freshman, external transfers, and internal transfers that are admitted to the university are welcome to declare construction management as sa major.

There are several awards open to Construction Management students. Ball State University recognizes academic excellence through the Dean's List each term. Students who maintain academic excellence may graduate cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude.
On a program level, seniors with above a 3.0 in both their major and cumulative GPAs are recognized as "Exceptional Graduates" at the Department of Technology Awards Ceremony in April of each year. One student from this group is also awarded as the "Outstanding Graduate" on the basis of their scholarship and involvement.
Additionally, juniors and seniors whose grade point averages are in the top 20% and meet work experience, extracurricular, and other requirements are eligible for membership in Sigma Lambda Chi, the international Honor Society for Leaders in Construction. In the fall 2014 semester, Ball State's Delta V chapter was pleased that 9 students were accepted as candidates for membership.

There are several scholarships specifically available to Construction Management students, including the Construction Management Scholarship, the Top Notch Construction Management Scholarship, and the John Warner Scholarship. Additionally, students are eligible to compete for several Department of Technology Scholarships, including the Henry A. Loats Scholarship, the Kenneth E. Poucher Scholarship, the William T. Sargent Scholarship, and the Fred J. Schmidt Jr. Scholarship. During the most recent scholarship cycle (April 2014), 8 Construction Management students were awarded scholarships totaling $6,550.

Students regularly participate in various construction-related competitions. In the fall semester of 2013, a team of Construction Management students placed 2nd in the Associated Schools of Construction Region III Heavy Civil competition. Another interdisciplinary team of Construction Management and Architecture student placed 1st in the Design-Build Institute of America's Great Lake Region student competition.
Employment of Graduates
The latest student exit surveys were completed by students graduating in May and July of 2015. At the time that the students completed and submitted their surveys (prior to graduation), 20/21 (95%) had accepted job offers, and 100% had accepted job offers within six months of graduation. The average starting salary was over $51,000. Employers hiring our graduates this term include ERMCO, Gilbane, Hunt Construction, Kleenco, Meyer Najem, Pepper Construction, Walsh, and others, representing commercial (50%), heavy/civil (30%), and subcontractors (20%).
For all of 2013 (including May, July, and December graduates), 37 students graduated from the program, with 21 (57%) reporting at the time of completing the exit survey that they had accepted job offers at an average starting salary of nearly $47,000 and 3 (8%) planning on pursuing graduate degrees.
The Construction Management program employs several assessment measures, including direct and indirect approaches. Direct measures examine student work, such as student-prepared estimates and schedules, and indirect methods include exit surveys and comments. The latest assessment results indicated that the construction management program is substantially meeting its program and curriculum goals. Specific results include the following:

Most recent actions taken as a result of this feedback include several new required courses which are being offered for the first time in the 2014-2015 academic year. These include the first offerings of TCST 222 Technical Presentation, which is intended to strengthen oral communication abilities and improve written communications. TCST 261 Mechanical Construction and TCST 262 Electrical Construction are also new this year and are meant to improve knowledge of design theory and construction systems.
