Rules and Requirements for Applying
Complete a pre-telecommunications core
of five courses earning at least a C (2.0) in each course and an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 for all pre-TCOM courses.
Demonstrate a competency in language usage, grammar, and computer skills.
Complete a departmental application and participate in a departmental orientation session.
Majors cannot choose more than one option
in the department, and they’re not eligible to select any of the minors
offered by the department.
Rules and Requirements for Majors and Minors
- Must earn a C (2.0) or above in all required courses and a 2.5 overall GPA in all required courses (pre-TCOM and option, including option classes outside of the department).
You are going after a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications. Ball State University requires that all BA majors must complete four semesters or the equivalent in one modern or classical language
, while TCOM minors need two semesters. Film minors have no departmental language requirement. You may be eligible to earn a portion of your language credit by successfully completing an exam. Contact the Department of Modern Languages and Classics

TCOM option courses are only open to approved departmental majors and minors and pre-TCOM courses are generally only open to approved pre-TCOM students.
All 300- and 400-level TCOM courses must be completed at Ball State.
No more than 12 hours of transfer credits are accepted in the major and no more than 9 in any of the minors offered.
