Ball State University's production option is intended for students wanting to pursue a professional career in directing for the stage or stage management. This option also prepares students for admission to production-oriented master of fine arts graduate programs.
The production option requires 62 credit hours. Students are required to take a core curriculum of 32 hours plus 30 elective hours of theatre and performance studies courses. Choice of electives is determined by students' career goals. All theatre students also complete a strong core of liberal arts courses.
Students enter this program in the theatrical studies option and apply for admission to the production option at the end of their freshman year. Students must pass a portfolio review at the end of their sophomore and junior years to continue in the option. A final project is required in their senior year and must be approved by the Directing/Stage Management Coordinator, Karen Kessler.
