Biography
Drew Vidal has taught courses in beginning acting, scene study, beginning vocal production, singing actor, audition techniques for theatre, and numerous topics in movement and stage combat. At BSU, Drew coordinates the acting option; coaches the Chicago and LA senior showcases; has served as a movement coach/fight director for numerous productions; served as dialect coach for Intimate Apparel; co-directed Macbeth with colleague Wendy Saver; directed Steven Berkoff’s Greek and Shogo Ohta’s The Water Station (Spring 2013); adapted and directed Luigi Pirandello’s classic Six Characters in Search of an Author; and acted in Angels in America (Joe) and The Laramie Project: Revisited (Ensemble). Areas of special interest include devised and movement-based theatre.
In between degrees, he resided in Chicago, where he worked as an actor and movement coach/fight director both locally and regionally. As an actor there, he worked with The Hypocrites, Famous Door, Red Hen, Defiant, Collaboraction, Tin Fish, and Boxer Rebellion, among others, while regional work took him to Madison Rep, New American Theatre, and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. Recent roles include D’artagnan in a new, world premier adaptation of The Three Musketeers and Slender in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Illinois Shakespeare), Davis in Red Light Winter (Shafer Street Playhouse), and Kreon in Medea (Virginia Commonwealth University).
As a fight director, Drew has choreographed over fifty professional productions, including Richmond Shakespeare’s Henry IV Pt. 1, Wisconsin Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Illinois Shakespeare’s Richard III, Henley Street Theatre’s The Spanish Tragedy, Indiana Repertory Theatre’s Holes, and the US premier of Boxer Rebellion’s The Ressurectionsists. In Washington DC, working alongside veteran Broadway Fight Director Rick Sordelet, he acted as Associate Fight Director for the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s productions of Taming of the Shrew, Tamburlaine the Great, and Edward II.
Drew holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Acting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Theatre Pedagogy, with an emphasis in movement and voice, and is an Advanced Actor/Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors.
