About the Requirement
The history of Ball State’s Writing Proficiency Program is vitally connected to Ball State’s University’s commitment to ensuring its students’ academic excellence.
The Writing Proficiency Requirement first became a graduation requirement for all baccalaureate students at BSU in 1984, and the Writing Proficiency Program has continued to evolve in order to meet the needs of the University community.
Although the formats of the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPP 392) and the Writing Proficiency Course (WPP393) have changed over time, the Requirement’s purpose has remained consistent: to support the educational goals of Ball State’s students, faculty, and administrators through writing assessment.
Because the Program has a University-wide mission, its administration is supported by the Writing Proficiency Program Advisory Committee whose members are drawn from departments and offices from across campus.
