Internships

It’s one thing to argue theory in class or pull together a big paper on how gender issues impact self-perception or income, but it’s completely different when you must face gender issues in the real world. That’s what makes your internship so valuable. Sure, you get academic credit, but you get a something else that sticks with you beyond academic requirements.

Internships take many forms, including in our office and specifically for Women’s Week.

On-Campus Internship

All on-campus internships for women’s and gender studies credit take place in our program office. At the conclusion of the internship semester, interns submit a portfolio of their experiences and duties and create a resume.

To apply, complete an internship application form available in the Burkhardt Building (BB), room 108, and submit the completed form to the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at least one semester prior to the desired semester for the internship. You will be interviewed prior to being selected to complete an internship in the program office.

If approved for an internship, the director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program will complete an online permission form for you for the appropriate course number and credit hours. After the online permission has been completed, you must register for the designated internship course.

If you are selected to do an internship, come to the office prior to the first day of your internship semester to fill out a time availability sheet and to receive an internship job description packet.

  • Interns work a predetermined number of hours each week. In addition to these hours, interns maybe expected to attend regular staff meetings.
  • Interns will receive a written evaluation of their performance at the midterm of the semester.
  • Students are not expected to work during university holidays or during final exam week.
