Muriel and Irene Goldman Scholarship

The Muriel and Irene Goldman Scholarship was established in 1998 with a gift from David W. Goldman and Irene Goldman-Price.

Irene Goldman-Price (then Irene Goldman) was deeply involved with women's studies and the Women's and Gender Studies Program during her years as a faculty member at Ball State University (1986-1997). She also served as the director of the program from 1991-1994.

The scholarship was established by Goldman-Price and her father in order to continue her commitment to students in women’s studies and as a loving memorial to Muriel Goldman, a talented, generous, and loving woman who believed in education for women as well as men.

  • One or two scholarships are made annually to full time student(s) with a declared major or minor in women's and gender studies.
  • Recipients must be in their junior or senior year of study and have earned a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Preference will be given to those demonstrating financial need; however, other qualified students also will be eligible for the award.
  • Awards will be made without regard to race, sex, religion, color, national origin, physical and mental disability, age, or ancestry.
  • The Ball State University Foundation determines the annual availability of scholarship funds.
  • Award recipients are chosen by the Women's and Gender Studies Advisory Committee in consultation with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid during the spring semester (with funds becoming available for the following academic year).

The first Muriel and Irene Goldman Scholarship was awarded for the 2000–2001 academic year. Each year, the recipient name(s) are engraved on a perpetual plaque displayed in the Women's and Gender Studies Program office.
