Lecturer of Journalism
Brian Hayes, MJE, directs the journalism education, journalism graphics and internship programs within the Department of Journalism at Ball State University. Prior to joining Ball State’s faculty, Hayes was a high school journalism teacher and professional newspaper designer and graphics editor in three cities. His contributions to journalism education can be seen at both the state and national levels, most prominently in his elected roles as the Design Curriculum Coordinator and Certification Committee member within the Journalism Education Association, a national organization for journalism educators. At Ball State, Hayes serves on several department and university-level committees and is a past-president and active member of Ball State’s Journalism Alumni Society Board of Directors. In recognition of his continued service to further the knowledge and skill of future journalists, Hayes has been honored with JEA’s Medal of Merit, IHSPA’s Louis E. Ingelhart Friend of Scholastic Journalism and JEA’s Linda S. Puntney Teacher Inspiration Award, just to name a few.
