“Voices from the Past”
Three former slaves were honored by the Bethel A.M.E. Church on April 11, 1935. Each woman recounted her experience of slavery to the congregation and Muncie Star reporter Paul Kelso. Left to right: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brown (age 100), Mrs. Betty Gunn (age 103), and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jackson (age 103).

James Scott
James Scott was a descendant of one of Muncie’s earliest permanent African American residents and the last survivor of the African American settlement of Scott’s Corner.
