Approval Book Plan

The University Libraries have an approval plan arrangement with a major book vendor for acquiring current publications at very favorable discounts. The approval plan is designed to provide books containing subject contents and academic levels that correspond with the University's academic curricula. Criteria for selection are based on subject profiles the University Libraries established with the vendor for academic disciplines and non-subject parameters. The profile is periodically reviewed with input from the departmental library representatives and adjusted to reflect changes in curricula.

The University Libraries' approval plan provides books within a few weeks of publication and supports the broad range of the university's academic programs. Approval books are charged to the University Libraries' general fund account, and books considered "unacceptable" can be returned. A report of approval book receipts by subject is available upon request from Collections Development.
