The Frank A. Bracken U.S. Civil War Collection showcases artifacts, photos, weapons, maps, authentic reenactment uniforms, personal papers, battlefield preservation documents,
and more than 200 significant academic and rare books about the Civil War and President
Abraham Lincoln. Bracken's great-grandfather William Holsworth Bracken served as
a 1st lieutenant of the Indiana Calvary, Union Company B, 4th Regiment. Several items
belonged to 1st Lt. Bracken. 

An exhibit of the collection entitled On the Battlefield, We Became a Nation premiered on December 1, 2014 in Archives and Special Collections, Bracken Library Room 210. The exhibit runs through January 31, 2015. As part of the exhibit opening, the Friends of Bracken Library presented a program by Nicole Etcheson, Alexander M. Bracken Professor of History on
"The Goodly Land of Hoosier: How the Civil War Changed Indiana." Photos below are from
