Clustered Minors in Environmentally Sustainable Practices
A cluster of interdepartmental minors has been designed to address the growing need for students at Ball State University to increase their environmental literacy. The minors offer new opportunities for students to build experiences in environmental studies that cross disciplinary lines. The clustered-minors concept reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary exposure and a university education that reflects the needs of the future.
The Clustered Minors in Environmentally Sustainable Practices develop a beginning foundation of knowledge about important environmental issues in ecology, environmental economics, and environmental ethics, supplemented by taking carefully selected courses within each of the specialized programs that are described below. All students pursuing a minor within the cluster are encouraged to take NREM 101, Environment and Society, as an elective within the University Core Curriculum. To finish a program of study within any one minor, students enroll in a closing course that is shared by all the clustered minors, ID 400, Creating a Sustainable Future. Further information about ID 400 is addressed in the catalog section on Interdepartmental courses.
For more information or assistance with academic advising for any of the clustered minors, contact the Center for Energy Research/Education Service, AB 018, 765-285-1135.
