New International students cannot register for academic courses prior to their arrival at Ball State University. New students are required to attend “International Student Orientation” programs the week before school begins. Only after completing all the mandatory orientation sessions and submitting immigration documents would new students be eligible to register for courses.

Academic advising is the process through which all Ball State students plan their course schedules.

First-year undergraduate students (freshmen) are assigned an academic advisor who assists in selecting a major area of study and a minor area of study, scheduling classes, understanding academic procedures, investigating career goals, and more. Once you have completed your freshman year and selected an academic major, you will begin meeting with an academic advisor within the department of the major you have selected.

Graduate-level students are assigned an advisor within the department of the program in which they are accepted. Your advisor will assist you in registering for classes and understanding the completion requirements and regulations.
