Admission Requirements

As an international student, you will apply for admission through the Rinker Center for International Programs, which provides you with a variety of variety of support and services.

The level of study you wish to pursue and your current academic level and past academic performance determine the criteria, requirements, and processes you must meet and follow in order to gain admittance into Ball State University.

Freshman

You are a freshman student if you:

  • have completed or will complete high school or secondary school before your term of application
  • have not attended a university or college or other postsecondary institution
  • attended a university or college or other postsecondary institution

  • wish to earn a bachelor

You will follow the freshman admission requirements and application procedures.

Undergraduate Transfer

You are a transfer student if you:

  • have completed or will complete high school or secondary school before your term of application
  • have attended a university or college or other postsecondary institution for a minimum of one semester. (This is for academic study only, does not include Intensive English study)
  • attended a university or college or other postsecondary institution for a minimum of one semester. (This is for academic study only, does not include Intensive English study)

  • wish to earn a bachelor

You will follow the transfer student admission requirements and application procedures.

Graduate

You are a graduate student if you:

  • have earned a bachelor
  • have earned a master

You will follow the graduate student admission requirements and application procedures.

Conditional Admission (English Proficiency)

Conditional admission is covered by the below :

  • Undergraduate and non-degree students are considered for conditional admission automatically. You are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
  • Graduate applicants, are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to Ball State. Scores below TOEFL IBT 79 or PBT 550 and IELTS overall scores below 6.5 are considered for conditional admission. If your score is above 79, 550, or 6.5 then you will be considered for regular admission.
  • Government Sponsored Exceptions
    • You are not required to submit TOEFL/IELTS Scores
    • Your application will be considered for conditional admission
    • If you submit a passing score you will be considered for regular admission

  • General TOEFL/IELTS Exceptions
    • If you have earned a degree or have 24 hours of academic study in the US you are waived from the TOEFL/IELTS
    • If you have earned a degree from a native English Speaking Country like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, you may be waived from the TOEFL/IELTS. You will need to contact us for further information.
