Approved for 1 CEU by AIA and LA CES.
The firm has been participating this year with CAP in a series of lectures and projects that have explored the future of the design professions and new forms of inter-disciplinary work. Posson is co-director of sustainable design and corporate director of engineering, and Baumgartner is a campus and urban energy and infrastructure strategist at SmithGroupJJR.
The relationship between SmithGroupJJR and CAP is bringing leading edge thought leadership about the future of the planning, design and construction management fields to Ball State. It is possible due to the leadership of CAP alumnus Troy Thompson who is a managing partner at SmithGroupJJR and a member of the newly created CAP Executive Advisory Board.
In addition to providing us a series of formal guest lectures on the topic of anticipating change in the design/construction professions, CAP students and faculty will collaborate with the firm on a planning and design project involving the Chicago Stockyards, a mile square area in the heart of Chicago which was once an economic center for the city and now is underutilized. All CAP disciplines will have a role to play in the re-imagining of this important urban space. CAP faculty and students are also exploring joint research opportunities with experts from the firm.
SmithGroupJJR has practice areas in sustainable design, waterfront design, urban development, healthcare facility design, construction administration, and campus design to name a few. The group was responsible for Ball State’s current master planning effort and has already participated generously in a Design Week exercise at the college in fall 2015. A number of CAP alumni work within SmithGroupJJR and are engaging the college in this ongoing relationship.
