Engaging Community Series

In engaged universities, community involvement is viewed not as a supplement to a faculty member’s core work, but as an effective way to achieve all three of academia’s primary missions – teaching, research, and service (Furco, 2010).

Our Fall 2017 Engaged Community Series will highlight Ball State faculty who have successfully embedded community engagement across their scholarly pursuits.

Session 2: Research (Thursday, October 19, 9:30 – 10:30 am, BL Schwartz Digital Viewing Room)

Presenters: TBA

Community-engaged research – qualitative and quantitative – requires adherence to rigorous standards plus sensitivity to the needs, expectations, and hesitations of the research subjects. Muncie residents and organizations can suffer from research fatigue after decades of surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other research methods. This session will present faculty who have successfully conducted research that resulted in meaningful scholarship and sustained community impact.

Co-hosted by Office of Community Engagement, Office of Immersive Learning, and Sponsored Projects Administration
