The improvising chamber ensemble 9 HorsesThe improvising chamber ensemble 9 Horses will be in residency at the School of Music with two days of workshops, master classes, and a concert. With original compositions and genre-hopping virtuosity of all three members, the trio represents co-leader Joe Brent's vision of a musical future with no barrier between the old notions of 'folk art' and 'fine art'. Free and open to the public.

Manuel Calvo will give a presentation on his country of origin, Panama! Panama is located in the narrow bridge of land that connects North and South America. The Isthmus of Panama includes more than 1.500 islands. Panama is filled with natural beauty, which includes diverse plants and animals, hundreds of different typs of birds, and many types of trees. The average rainfall is twice as heavy on Caribbean coast (60–140) inches per year, as it is on the Pacific cost (45–90) inches.

The improvising chamber ensemble 9 HorsesThis improvising chamber ensemble is comprised of Joe Brent on mandolin, Sara Caswell on violin, and Andrew Ryan on bass. The concert will include the premiere performance of “yellow toy truck with silver wheels,” a piece for soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, piano, harp, and percussion commissioned by the Ball State School of Music. Free and open to the public.

International Sip & Chat occurs once each month in the Yuhas Room of the Rinker Center for International Programs. It provides American students, international students, faculty, and others a place to relax and chat while enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee or tea.

John Van Cura is a National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Master Teacher and Professor Emeritus of Voice at Baylor University. He has sung over fifty opera and oratorio roles, including the major works of Bach and Haydn. His students have won many major vocal competitions and have gone on to lead careers as opera singers, recitalists, choral conductors, and voice teachers. Free and open to the public.
