Career counseling involves assisting you to pinpoint skills and values; develop an occupational identity; and establish short and long term goals. The Counseling Center can assist you in choosing an appropriate major coupled with identifying occupational choices. The desired outcome is to assist you in creating and generating satisfactory options for the present and in developing career decision-making skills for the future. Interest inventories may be utilized during career counseling to confirm perceptions or to explore new directions. However, the ultimate goal is to assist you in developing self- assessment skills. The focus in career counseling is to help you identify barriers to decision-making so that you can move forward and confidently make these important decisions. It is essential to realize that career exploration is an ongoing process, but once you learn the strategies needed to make good decisions, you can apply them again and again.
