National Nutrition Month 2015

Each March, BSU Dining and several Ball State departments team up to bring you a month full of events that will equip you for making healthy choices on campus. Check out the 2015 events below, and look for information in 2016 events in spring semester.


Submit a recipe to our healthy recipe contest for a chance to see it served at the Student Center Tally Chef Station! Email your original entree recipe, including specific ingredients and quantities, to dining@bsu.edu with subject "recipe contest" by March 31. Open to students and employees.


Healthy Tips for Busy Schedules
MARCH 9  |  11 a.m.-1 p.m.  | SRWC Lobby     
Worried about the “freshman 15”? Stop by the SRWC to see what it would be like to carry around and extra 20 lbs. each day by trying on our weight suit. Our campus nutritionists will be there to share about fitting health into your schedule and will have snacks and resources to give away.

MARCH 11  | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | SRWC Lobby
“Should I go gluten-free? What is clean eating? Is butter a carb?” In celebration of Registered Dietitian Day, a BSU Nutrition Assessment Lab dietician will be answering all of your nutrition-related questions. RD Day was created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to increase awareness of registered dietitians as indispensable providers of food and nutrition services.

Snack Right
MARCH 11 | SC Tally & Noyer Centre  |  11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Do you want to eat healthier but can’t help but crush a brownie and chicken tenders every day at lunch? If the answer is yes, this event is for you. Our campus nutritionists will lend tips for making better snack choices and ideas for curbing food cravings.

Fresh Fruit Frenzy
MARCH 12  |  5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. | Woodworth Commons
Enjoy samples of some fruits you many not have experienced before: mango, starfruit, cara cara orange, heirloom orange, blood orange, and lemon plum.

FREE Jamba Juice Samples
MARCH 17 | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | The Atrium  
Celebrate St. Patrick’s day with a green smoothie sample from Jamba! Samples of the Ginger & Greens and Amazing Greens smoothies will be provided. Our campus nutritionists will be on hand to to provide tips ideas for building better smoothies and to discuss their health benefits. 

Employee Wellness Seated Massages  
MARCH 18 | 11 a.m.-2 p.m. | CA 115    
To schedule an appointment, please call Working Well at 285-9355. The cost is $10 for 10 minutes (or $1/ minute) with payment made to massage therapist Patricia Clouse at the time of the massage.This event is open to BSU employees only. 

B2 @ the Retreat       
MARCH 18 | 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. | The Retreat @ Noyer Centre
The Working Well staff will be present to take your questions and provide free body composition and blood pressure checks. Samples of The Retreat’s Mozzarella & Grape Tomato Salad will be provided. This event is open to BSU employees & their guests only.

Eat Right @ BSU 
MARCH 19 | Noon-1 p.m. | SC Tally
Join BSU Dining for samples of a healthy entree from the Tally Chef Station. Dining’s wellness nutritionist will be there to share tips for eating healthy under your meal equivalency.

Free Fitness Friday 
MARCH 20 | 5:30-7 p.m. | SRWC 141The Office of Recreation Services presents Free Fitness Friday in celebration of National Nutrition Month! Join us for Zumba and Turbokick. We’ll have glow-in-the-dark bracelets and black lights to set the mood. If you have something that will glow, please bring it! The Nutrition Assessment Lab RD will be on-site for biometric screenings, and healthy snacks will be provided by BSU Dining.

Crazy for Crickets! 
MARCH 23 | Noon-1 p.m. | The Atrium 
Meats, beans, nuts, seeds, and dairy are all good sources of protein, but what about insects? Did you know that 20 crickets contain the same amount of protein as 1 ounce of meat or cheese? Those brave enough to try our cricket snack mix will have the chance to play PLINKO to win awesome prizes. Dining’s wellness nutritionist will also offer information about dietary protein sources and making healthy choices on campus.

Free Yoga Class
MARCH 25 | 7:30-8:30 p.m. |  Stu West Multipurpose Room 
Grab a friend and head over to Stu West for a special National Nutrition Month edition of their SURF-sponsored yoga class. Snacks, healthy eating tip sheets, and other giveaways will be provided. 

Eat This, Not That
MARCH 26 | 6-7 p.m. | Elliott Dining, Woodworth Commons, & The Buff 
Stop by one of three Dining locations for tips on making smarter food choices on campus. Campus nutritionists will be sharing ideas for eating more while spending less, with a focus on healthy meal ideas.

Foodie Friday
MARCH 27 | 11 a.m.-1 p.m.| Scramble Light 
Swing by and say hello to the Ball State Dietetic Association. Pick up some healthy snacks, water, and tips to help you make better nutrition choices.

Healthy Eating on a Budget 
MARCH 30 | 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | The Atrium
Contrary to popular belief, not all “healthy foods” are expensive. Whether you have a meal plan or live off-campus, we’ll show you how to eat healthy without breaking the bank.
