Not all students present to the emergency room or to a police officer after sexual violence. Many people first reveal exposure to sexual violence during the course of a visit to the Women's Center for a problem which may or may not be directly related to previous sexual violence.
The staff of the Women's Center are trained to deal in a sensitive and kind manner when a history of sexual violence is uncovered. As long as no immediate threat to the safety of the patient or another individual is revealed, all decisions about evaluation, treatment, and assistance are made jointly with the patient.
We are able to offer testing and/or treatment for STDs, evaluation for physical injuries, assistance with referral for counseling or collection of forensic evidence, notification of law enforcement or judicial affairs, and referral to the Office of Victim Services.
