Job Description
The Community Assistant is responsible for facilitating positive community relations for students and student families in an academically supportive environment for a diverse apartment community consisting of residents living in approximately 60 apartment units. The Community Assistant is a staff member of the Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) and reports directly to a Resident Manager (RM).
Requirements
1. Enrollment in a degree program meeting basic apartment contract terms at Ball State University
2. Must hold at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
3. Enrollment as a Ball State student for at least one semester prior to employment
4. Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University
5. Occupancy of a University Apartment during the time of employment
6. Having a responsible rental payment history for the University Apartments, if applicable
7. Must have completed at least 63 credit hours by start of employment
Responsibilities
- Support and promote the HRL Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Departmental Initiatives
- Serve as a resource person to residents for student, campus, and community services
- Attend staff meetings, in-service programs, and training sessions in the fall and spring
- Meet University Apartments programming expectations, including, but not limited to planning multiple social gatherings each semester for the community for which he/she is assigned
- Assist in administrative duties as assigned by the Resident Manager (RM)
- Communicate, role model, and assist in enforcing HRL and University policies
- Know the names of all residents in the courtyard or building to which he/she is assigned
- Submit monthly articles for the community newsletter or determined publication
- Provide information on resident changes, i.e. new babies, arrival/departure of a spouse
- Welcome residents and inform them about policies, procedures, amenities, and opportunities
- Attend the Community Association of Scheidler and Anthony (CASA) meetings, assist with two activities per semester, and encourage residents to attend and participate
- Participate in rotating, on-call duty responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the RM or Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life
Additional Opportunities
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of new staff members
- Serve on departmental committees and/or action teams
- Plan and attend staff retreats
- Contribute to area collateral assignments in consultation with the RM

- Stipend of $3000/year (paid in 10 taxed payments)
