MA Job Description
The Multicultural Advisor is primarily responsible for facilitating diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice through resident interaction and awareness programs. The Multicultural Advisor is a staff member of the Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) and reports directly to the MA supervisors, a Residence Hall Director (RHD) and an Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD), who serve as the MA supervisors.
Requirements Needed to apply for the MA position:
- A 2.5 accumulative grade point average or better.
- Be enrolled in or completed EdHi 200 class with a grade of C or better.
- Be in good academic and judicial standing with HRL and the university.
- Be able to work the entire academic year or as specified by the contract.
- Have completed 28 credit hours by contract start date.
- Two semesters of collegiate residence hall living at Ball State University must be completed by contract start date.
Responsibilities
- Support and promote the HRL mission statement, diversity statement, and departmental initiatives.
- Complete administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, meetings, training, planning and presenting, spring and/or summer retreat, and weekly reports.
- Develop and plan one program per assigned perspective area area and 3 campus-wide programs with fellow MAs per semester. All programs should be activity based and engaging for residents.
- Be a contact or resource for staff teams regarding areas of multiculturalism, social justice and diversity.
- Act as a liaison for HRL to four main Multicultural Organizations on campus (Spectrum, BSA, LSU and AASA)
- Communicate with supervising directors regularly about programs, needs of students, SJS sessions and staff.
- Develop relationship with hall staff teams and residents through community walks, activities/programs and personal interactions.
- Be a positive role model through personal example and demonstrate a commitment to and pride for BSU and HRL through respectful language and behavior.
- Support and respect the dignity of all individuals.
- Attend staff meetings and meetings with MA Supervisors.
- Uphold and abide by all federal, state, local laws & Ball State University and HRL policies.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Additional Opportunities
