Early Move In

For students who require an early move-in due to an athletic team, Early Start or other Ball State student group or organization with approval in advance from Housing and Residence Life, please follow these guidelines when planning your arrival to the residence halls. For individual students requiring an early move-in, see the information below:

  • Approved Groups: Approved groups must have permission in advance from the associate director of Housing and Residence Life to arrive before the first official day of move-in, August 13 (Premium Plan day). Contact your organization's leader to determine if your group has been approved, and the date and time scheduled for your move-in.
  • Individual Students: Individual students also must have permission in advance from the associate director of Housing and Residence life to arrive before the first official day of move-in, August 13. Students who arrive early without making arrangements in advance will not be able to move in.
  • Drop-off and Parking: Please plan to arrive at your residence hall at the day and time your group's leader has indicated. (If you arrive outside of the designated day/time, there may not be staff available to assist you.) You may park in the designated parking areas to unload your belongings at the curb, then move your vehicle to the parking lot based on your parking permit. Ball State Parking Services will enforce all parking lots during the early arrival times. While families are unloading vehicles, students should check into their hall desk to receive their check-in packet and room key. Carts and tools will be available at the front desk to check-out.
  • Student IDs: Please bring your Ball State ID with you to check-in at your residence hall.
  • Food: Dining is not open to use with your meal plan until August 13. Contact your group's leader to see what arrangements will be provided for you.
  • Hall Desk: Your hall's desk will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. August 3-10. Beginning August 11, the hall desk will be available 7 a.m.-midnight. U.S. Postal Service mail will be delivered to the halls beginning August 11.
  • Night Staff: Staff will begin checking student IDs and registering guests when the hall desks close every evening beginning August 11.
  • Resident Assistants (RAs): Resident Assistants will already be moved in, but will be in training during the day hours of early arrival. They will have night-time hours to be on-site at their residence halls.
  • Lofts and Carpet: Plan to pick up your loft or carpet on August 16 from the designated areas.
  • MicroFridges and Futons: These will be delivered to your room before your arrival, if you placed your ordered before the July 30 pre-order deadline. To place your order, visit www.bedloft.com.
  • Policies: You will be expected to adhere to all residence hall policies upon your move-in.
  • Roommates: Communicate with your roommate if you are in a group that is moving in early, to determine how the room will be set up and how you will share the space. Unfortunately if you are not part of an early arrival group, you may not move in early with your roommate.
  • Additional Charges: Please be aware that as you are moving into the halls before your housing contract begins, your Bursar account will be charged for each night of your early stay.
  • Emergencies: In case of an emergency, contact your hall's front desk and University Police at 285-1111.
