MLK Celebration & Speaker Series

The MLK Celebration and Speaker Series serves as an excellent example of a community engaged university. Ball State University and the Muncie Community MLK Planning Committee, led by the Collective Coalition of Concerned Clergy, partner to host a day of events that celebrate the legacy and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The day's events include events hosted on campus and the community:

  • MLK Community Breakfast
  • MLK Unity March (immediately after the breakfast)
  • Children and Youth Empowerment sessions
  • Community Job Fair
  • MLK Worship Service (hosted by a local church and features a keynote speaker)
  • Community Service (Student Voluntary Services)

Additionally, the MLK Celebration includes a keynote speaker to honor the contributions of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The speakers selected are renowned nationally and can advance the community conversation around ideals and values of Dr. King that are still salient today.

The MLK Speaker series is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, Multicultural Center and Office of Institutional Diversity.
