What is Spectrum?
Since 1974, Spectrum
has served as Ball State University's organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, queer, and questioning individuals and their allies
(GLBTQSA). Spectrum is advised through the Office of Student Life, the clearing house for all recognized student organizations.
Specctrum provides social support to create a comfortable, confidential, and accepting
atmosphere for its members. Meetings are both fun and educational. Our
motto —"Just because you're here doesn't mean you're queer"— represents
the idea that you do not have to identify as GLBTQ to become a member. Everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression, is welcome to attend
our meetings and events! Confidential meetings are
held weekly during fall and spring semesters. Due to the nature of this
organization, everyone is asked to respect the privacy of others.
The mission of Spectrum is to educate the Ball State and Muncie communities on lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender issues, cultures and history through various programming efforts. Spectrum's goal is to provide an anonymous, healthy and safe place for Ball State University students and surrounding communities who are discovering their sexual orientation to help find an understanding network of support. All programs and activities sponsored by Spectrum are free to Ball State students. Consider attending one of Spectrum's great events, including:
